THE OBSCURA.
Installation + Outdoor Theatre
Ground Level

As you walk onto the site one of the first things you will notice is the telescopic installation which is paired with the outdoor theatre . These two forms act as a pair with similar forms with 2 different uses. The installation sits on a podium raised from the ground to emphasize its importance on the site and also acts as public seating area with its ease of access, relationship to views, access to sun and shade.

While the outdoor theatre is located at the back of the site creating a natural pathway between the two. Guiding users to explore the entire site.
In front of the theatre is a large mirror which doubles as the screen when viewed from the other side.
Mirrors reflects light which allows them to reflect the world around them. As users can see themselves as well as the site around them. This is used as a powerful symbol of wisdom and awareness.

OUTDOOR THEATRE
“Psychology tends to be more critical of mirrors which represent the barrier between conscious and
unconscious and therefore, by looking deep into a mirror, we look deep inside ourselves in a conscious
 way, following a thoughts process.”
Both structures utilize tube lighting that enhance the form as well as reflective mirrors on the ceilings.

PROCESS WORK
My original theatre design was an abstract form that formed leading lines pointing towards the exhibition area however this form had no connection with the rest of my site. From which the telescopic structure now co-exists with the installation at the front of the site.
With a web-like structure for the installation to contrast the sharp edges of the outdoor exhibition. Again did not have enough connection to my design theory and overall site.
Which led to my new form - taking from an old camera obscura model and deconstructing the form. I created two different structures utilizing the same core foundation
